Weather Conditions: Weather Forecast

Spring weather can be quite fickle, with temperatures fluctuating between 70 degrees one day and snowfall at 40 the next. It’s wise to stay prepared, especially if you’re planning a trip. Take a moment to research the local weather before you depart, and consider packing layers to adapt to any unexpected changes.

Water Conditions: Current Flows

The flows increased a couple of weeks ago to around 2200 CFS, and they’ve been fluctuating a bit since then. However, this flow can create excellent fishing conditions. There’s been a slight increase in debris due to the higher flow, but that’s typical as we move into the summer months.

Hatches and Insects:

The spring Blue Wing Olive hatches have been extraordinary! While we’re beginning to notice some other insect activity, it’ll likely be another month before it kicks into high gear. The fish are noticeably active as they emerge from winter, feeding consistently. This trend should continue until we hit the ‘Dog Days’ of summer and the water temperature rises. Currently, the water temperature remains cool, hovering between 42 and 46 degrees on most days

Flies:

  • Nymphs: Poison Tongue, Two-Bit Beatis,  Juju Midge, Day Save Baetis, Darth Baetis, Mercury Midge, Paddington’s Baetis, Ray Charles, Soft Hackle Sow, Epoxy Back Sow
  • Emeregers: RS2, WD-40, Bat Wing, Antonio’s, Macgruber
  • Dry: BWO, Renegade, Griffith Gnat
  • Streamer: Black Baby Gonga, Conehead Muddler Minnow, Zirdle, Pine Squirrel, Rusty Trombone
