Bighorn Drifters

Dean Schaff

Head Guide/Owner

After relocating to Wyoming in 1994, Dean Schaff discovered his passion for fly fishing. During his time at the University of Wyoming, he honed his skills by exploring the High Plains lakes, local rivers, and the Upper North Platte. Following his graduation, Dean moved to Worland, where he embarked on a teaching career. Throughout his tenure, he dedicated ample time to fishing the streams, lakes, and rivers of the Bighorn Mountains, including the renowned Bighorn River in Thermopolis.

During his time in Worland, Dean not only taught fly fishing at the Wyoming Boys’ School but also accompanied his students on various outdoor adventures. In 2004, Dean relocated to Lander and expanded his coaching and teaching endeavors, including physical education and outdoor education classes. Alongside his professional pursuits, he continued exploring and learning about the diverse waterways in Fremont County and beyond.

In 2006, Dean’s fishing experiences took an exciting turn as he began navigating the Bighorn, Green, and New Fork Rivers from a boat. This introduction to floating and fishing from a different perspective ignited a profound love for these activities. Ultimately, this passion led Dean to establish a business aimed at teaching and educating others about fly fishing and his unwavering enthusiasm for the water.

Dean Schaff’s journey as an angler, educator, and coach has shaped his profound understanding of fly fishing and the joy it brings. Through his business, he seeks to share his expertise and kindle the same passion for fishing and the beauty of nature in those who embark on this remarkable journey with him.
