Bighorn River, Thermopolis Wyoming

Flow: 1313.8 CFS (Flow Data)
Current Report
The Bighorn River is gradually unveiling its stunning fall palette, with trees and fish adorning themselves in vibrant hues. Fishing conditions are improving as the river sheds its summer greenery, making it an ideal time for anglers. Nymphing is expected to become more productive in the coming weeks, although dry flies and streamers remain popular choices. Fish are predominantly congregating in shallow waters and riffles. While the current flows have remained stable, there’s a possibility of a decrease in the near future once irrigation requirements are met. According to seasoned anglers, a flow reduction is anticipated around October 15th, although only time will confirm their predictions.
For those seeking a fruitful fishing experience, late afternoons are proving to be particularly productive for dry fly fishing, with reduced angling pressure. Although most boats are still hitting the water around 8 in the morning, this timing might shift back as Daylight Savings Time approaches. My recommendation is to make the most of dry fly fishing until the weather turns too cold, dampening the insect hatches. Happy fishing!
